Our Therapeutic Approach
At Fairley House we have a highly adept and experienced in-house Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) provision which supports the teaching of the curriculum and is tailored for every student based on their identified needs. There is no stigma attached to this specialist support as a regular part of the Fairley House experience and a core aspect of how we transform the learning outcomes of students.
Teachers appear to be keenly aware of pupils’ needs and provide individual support within lessons while also challenging pupils to achieve their best. Pupils appreciate the fact that they are not taken out of whole lessons for specific support and feel that they do not lose out.
CRESTED
Tailored for Each Child
The therapy provided at school is tailored to meet the specific learning needs of each individual child and is delivered on an individual or small-group basis.
Integrated and Transdisciplinary
At a mainstream school, your child may receive special provision and/or special educational needs (SEN) support by being removed from the existing curriculum which results in missed schoolwork and can leave them feeling singled out by their learning differences. At Fairley House, therapy is integrated within their school experience and delivered as part of the normal curriculum. As part of our transdisciplinary approach therapists work collaboratively with subject teachers within their regular lesson planning.
Highly Specialised Team
Our specialist staff includes multiple dedicated speech and language therapists and occupational therapists, along with highly specialised literacy and mathematics teachers. They are highly qualified specialists in their field with huge passion and commitment to support children with specific learning differences.
Speech and Language Therapy
Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) target specific differences related to the understanding and use of language. This can involve working on children’s ability to: follow instructions; understand concepts, formulate complex sentences; build vocabulary or retrieve words from their memory (word finding). Additionally, SLTs work on strategies to support short-term memory and build awareness of how sounds work within language. In addition to aiding spelling and writing skills this can also help address speech, voice and social skills.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists (OTs) work on foundation sensory, motor and perceptual skills through specific physical exercises through the deployment of specific apparatus in our bespoke OT studios . OT is a fantastic aid in helping students develop visual memory, enhance body awareness and posture, and lead to greater attentiveness, improved handwriting and better mental planning and organisation.
